Video: What's the goal of treating chronic nonspecific back pain?
By Mayo Clinic staffTranscript
Randy Shelerud, M.D., Mayo Clinic specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation
The main goal of treating nonspecific chronic low back pain is to maximize patients' function. We certainly don't have a cure for most chronic low back pain but if the patients can be taught the tools that they need to self-manage their pain, then they can focus a significant amount of energy toward maximizing their function in fitness, because that ultimately is what translates to a higher quality of life.
