If you have a plan in place to deal with an episode of a fast heartbeat, you may feel calm and in control when one occurs. Talk to your doctor about:

  • When and how to use vagal maneuvers
  • When to call your doctor
  • When to seek emergency care

You can also avoid substances that may contribute to a faster heartbeat, including:

  • Caffeine
  • Tobacco
  • Alcohol
  • Pseudoephedrine, a nasal decongestant
